Why I am running for Congress

I am running for the 7th Congressional seat against long-term Democrat Elijah Cummings. Rep. Cummings has been in Congress since 1997. He usually wins with 70-75% of the total vote. Admittedly, the odds are against me. As a Marylander and horse racing fan, I know something about longshots. I know I am one! I may not win, but I intend to run as fast and as hard as I can to the finish line.

I am a traditional Republican... and a proud one. I believe in limited government (as did our nation's founders), lower taxes, individual liberty and a strong national defense. These are not pro-forma statements by me. I believe in the private sector, not in "good will". There is abundant wisdom in the old saying the "the road to hell is paved with good intentions".

Wanting good results is not enough. Being realistic is essential. I'm not a utopian. I understand human nature. Those who do not understand it advocate policies that have led to an explosion of Americans dependent on the federal government and the weakening of America's interests in the world.

Elijah Cummings and his fellow liberals may be good people - with good intentions - but they are fools. They do not understand what made America great. It's not high taxation, excessive regulation at home and weakness abroad.

I am a proud Republican - and American - whose campaign will stand tall for both.
